Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a certified trainer?2017-09-23T17:50:56+00:00

Yes, Ron earned a scholarship and graduated from Western Metro School of dog training in 1977. All trainer/instructors working for Ron have completed 400 hours of training and graduated and received certification from our trainer/instructor program.

What is the difference between a trainer and a trainer instructor?2017-09-23T17:50:27+00:00

A trainer just trains dogs which is relatively easy. A trainer/instructor has been taught not only how to train any dog but to be able to effectively instruct others to train their dog.

How long does it take to train a dog?2017-09-23T17:49:49+00:00

There is no such thing as a fully trained dog. You need to learn these training techniques so you can apply them over the rest of your dog’s life. We have good reason to believe you will be very satisfied with your accomplishments after the four weeks of private lessons.

Will my dog perform perfectly after the four weeks of private lessons?2017-09-23T17:49:21+00:00

No, dogs never perform every task perfectly but our goal is that you will know what to do when your dog makes a mistake.

Can any dog be trained in your program?2017-09-23T17:48:51+00:00

If they have three legs and can walk.

Who should do the training?2017-09-23T17:48:22+00:00

Whoever is home the most and needs and wants to have the most control over their dog.

If I go through the training will my dog work for the rest of the family?2017-09-23T17:47:54+00:00

Your dog will work for whoever knows how to make it work, although some dogs have more of a pleasing temperament and will be more willing to work for others to a certain degree.

Will your program cover any problem with my dog?2017-09-23T17:47:24+00:00

Do you use food rewards in your training program?2017-09-23T17:46:59+00:00

Just for our puppy pre-school program. Not for our adults six months or older.

Why don’t you use food for dogs six months and older?2017-09-23T17:46:24+00:00

Because we want our dogs to be dependent on you as their leader not dependent on food.

What is the best age to start training?2017-09-23T17:45:54+00:00

Our puppy classes start at 9 weeks.

I have heard that you should not take a puppy out until they are fully vaccinated at 16 weeks of age.2017-09-23T17:45:14+00:00

Your puppy is more vulnerable but in our 30 years we have not seen many problems and the risk you take not starting early far outweighs the risk of disease.

What type equipment do I need for your puppy pre-school class?2017-09-23T17:44:24+00:00

A six foot nylon leash, a nylon collar and some of your dogs food.

Some have said choke collars are cruel, are they?2017-09-23T17:43:44+00:00

I have proven them wrong. If they think it is cruel then they have never learned how to properly use one. Most dogs will pull you around the neighborhood with one on if you let them. I believe you should not have your dog wearing a choke until you know how to use it properly and that is what we are here to teach you.

How is this training program unique and why has it been so effective for 30 years?2017-09-23T17:43:07+00:00

Our training program is effective for two reasons: Our method provides you with an understanding of canine behavior. The training techniques we teach you allow you to communicate with your dog in a way they are biologically “wired” to understand.

Our program is a thirty year time tested training program which consists of a known sequence of essential elements that, when administered properly, will produce a capable, well trained dog. The key to our success is that we teach you how to do what we do. So it is important that you learn the proper leash techniques, effective timing, proper praise and correction techniques in order to mold your dog’s behavior in the long term.

Why don’t you offer an inexpensive group class alternative?2017-09-23T17:41:56+00:00

If it would work, we would. Each dog and owner are different and we feel that by first training you one-on-one in a non distractive atmosphere you will then have the solid foundation to work under distraction effectively in our Saturday group classes.

Do you offer a money back guarantee?2017-09-23T17:40:58+00:00

If you feel we do not have the knowledge you needed, yes.
